Residents in Los Angeles, particularly in the Pacific Palisades area, are advised to boil tap water before use due to potential contamination from recent wildfires. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) issued this notice on January 8, 2025, affecting consumers in zip code 90272 and adjacent communities north of San Vicente Blvd.

The advisory is a precautionary measure following heavy ash, debris, and pressure fluctuations in the water system caused by the fires. Residents should use only boiled or bottled water for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth until further notice. Boiling water for at least one minute will kill bacteria and other organisms, making it safe for consumption.

The water system has been under extreme pressure due to increased usage in firefighting efforts. LADWP has reported that the public water system faced four times its usual demand, with supplies being emptied three times in less than 24 hours.

Testing to confirm water safety is ongoing and may take at least 48 hours. Residents will be informed when the water is deemed safe to drink without boiling. In the meantime, it’s crucial to continue boiling tap water or using bottled water to avoid potential illness.

Additionally, Pasadena residents affected by the Eaton Fire have been advised to use only bottled water, as boiling tap water won’t make it safe for consumption.

For more information and updates, residents can visit the LADWP website or contact their local water authorities.
