A jail in Manatee County, Florida, will reportedly not evacuate its 1,200 inmates, despite being situated in evacuation-mandated Zone A and directly in Hurricane Milton’s path.
Rather than relocating the prisoners, the facility has stocked up on supplies and reinforced the area with sandbags. A deputy told Newsweek that the site’s history of minimal flooding doesn’t justify an evacuation.
As part of the emergency plan, inmates will be moved to the top floor of the building if necessary.
