You might think you’re an absolute dynamo in bed, capable of going for hours and staying up all night. But let’s be real—you probably can’t. While it’s easy to imagine we have the stamina of a marathon runner during sex, the reality is quite different.
Urologist and sexual health expert Rena Malik has sparked a discussion by revealing the surprising average duration of sexual intercourse. In a recent YouTube video, she pointed out that common perceptions about how long sex lasts are often misleading. To clarify the facts, she presented some “true and timed data” to counter the exaggerated claims people often make.
Malik referred to a study that measured the “intra-ejaculatory latency time,” which is simply the time from penetration to ejaculation. She noted that men typically estimate the ideal duration to be about 16 minutes and believe the actual time is around nine minutes. However, the study’s findings paint a different picture.
In research involving 500 couples worldwide who timed their sessions, the average duration was found to be just 5.7 minutes. Interestingly, a separate poll of 400 women revealed that they desired an average length of about 25 minutes. So, while duration may vary, it seems quality still holds greater importance.
