Toyota Motor Corp. is reportedly scaling back its involvement in DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives and LGBTQ+ events following a recent online backlash. 🌈🚗
Bloomberg reports that the company informed U.S. employees via a memo that it will now prioritize efforts focused on STEM education and workforce readiness. As part of this shift, Toyota will no longer participate in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
This move follows criticism from “anti-woke” activist Robby Starbuck, who took issue with the company’s support of initiatives such as gender transition treatments for minors and sponsorship of drag events for children.
While Toyota’s memo stressed that the company remains committed to fostering an inclusive workplace, future activities will concentrate on professional growth, networking, and mentoring to better align with its business objectives.
